This has always disgusted me- not the urine factor, but the way in which it is obtained. I haven’t had any menopausal issues yet- which is very unusual considering all of the radiation, biologics and chemotherapy I’ve undergone so far, but I am apprehensive about experimenting with my own hormonal chemistry when it does happen. One of my doctors mentioned that I will change my mind when i realize that not taking hormones means rapid skin aging, I had to laugh- I’ve had total body radiation already- my oil and sweat glands are gone and my skin is already aging!
By the way, you’ve inspired me- I haven’t bought or eaten a dead chicken in over a year now!
Do you still eat eggs? Cheese? We do, but I vacillate about it.
I do have severe hot flashes but when I am consistent about using herbal supplements they are not intolerable. If I didn’t like the idea of drugs for menopausal symptoms before, I surely don’t now, having the clearer understanding of how Premarin is produced. I’m guessing that the lives of horses is improved since the Women’s Initiative study was released and millions of women quit using HRT.
It sounds like you have been through a lot. I hope you’re coping alright. I don’t personally believe the hype about HRT being the fountain of youth for women. I’m of the opinion that menopause is not a disease that needs treating. I do believe in a woman’s right to choose if she wants HRT but because of my opposition to animal suffering it’s not for me.
Congrats for becoming more conscious of what you eat. I’ve been meat free for 11 years. I do eat eggs occasionally, mainly organically raised from the Country Farm. Same with cheese. I can’t eat much of it or I will gain weight and what I do eat is from Organic Valley Farms or another non-factory farm. I’m always reading about veganism and want to learn more.
